The DogCover is a post-op recovery garment designed to help dogs heal comfortably, no cone of shame in sight. It's a soft, breathable, antimicrobial, step-in recovery suit that gently wraps your pup for full-torso coverage. It protects wounds, sutures, and hot spots while still letting dogs pee, poop, play, and nap. Think of it as a hug that heals.
-
Let’s be real—cones are a bummer. They’re clunky, they block vision, they make meal time weird, and they turn your dog into a walking satellite dish. ReCover is a total glow-up. It’s breathable, doesn’t get in the way, and thanks to its step-in design and clever potty cutouts, your dog can live their best life, even while healing.
-
If your dog’s having a planned surgery (like a spay/neuter), a surprise procedure, or dealing with sores, stitches, hot spots, or chronic skin issues, then ReCover is your go-to. Vets have recommended it for a wide range of recovery needs. It's especially great for those tricky “don’t touch this” zones that dogs love to lick.
-
The DogCover has smartly placed cutouts so dogs can fully “evacuate” (yes, that includes both #1 and #2) without needing to undress. No unfastening. No rolling up the fabric. No awkward moments. Just do their business and go.
-
We’ve made it easy. For male dogs, there’s a built-in perforation at the belly. Gently tear along the perforation to create enough space for your dog’s you-know-what to fit comfortably through. No cutting, no guesswork—just a quick adjustment and he’s good to go.
No need to adjust anything for female dogs. The suit’s already designed to fit them perfectly.
-
Absolutely. The DogCover recovery suit was wear-tested on real dogs and passed with flying colors. Dogs walked, played, and even zoomed a little. As long as your vet okays activity, your pup can stay active and adorable in their DogCover.
-
Oh yes. In fact, many of our dog parents say their pups sleep better in the recovery suit. The slight compression has a calming effect (think doggie version of a weighted blanket), which helps soothe post-op stress and promote rest, because a relaxed pup heals faster.
-
The DogCover has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate every anatomy. Whether your dog squats or lifts a leg, the potty areas are strategically placed for no-mess relief.
-
Our fabric includes an antimicrobial layer that helps wick away moisture, odor, and even ointments, keeping the wound area cleaner and fresher. It’s designed to support healing by minimizing bacteria buildup around the incision.
-
In most cases, yes. The DogCover is designed to be worn for extended periods, including overnight. That said, you know your dog best. If your pup is a notorious chewer, shredder, or escape artist, you’ll want to monitor them more closely. While the DogCover is made to stay secure and minimize temptation (no dangly bits or edges to grab), we always recommend using your best judgment. Unsupervised wear is totally fine, as long as you feel confident it’s safe for your dog.
Sizing and Fit
-
We make sizing simple: all you need is your dog’s weight and one measurement—from the base of their neck to the base of their tail. Then match it to the size chart below:
- XS: 12.5–14.5" long and 8–16 lbs (Think: Toy Poodle, Pug, Yorkshire Terrier)
- S: 14.5–20.5" long and 18–25 lbs (Think: Beagle, French Bulldog, Shih Tzu)
- M: 20.5–25.5" long and 30–60 lbs (Think: Husky, Cocker Spaniel, Bulldog)
- L: 25.5–30.5" long and 65–90 lbs (Think: Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd)
Between sizes? Go with the smaller one. Our fabric is super stretchy and contours to your pup’s body for a snug, comfy fit.
-
If your pup falls between sizes, we recommend sizing down. Our fabric is stretchy and designed to flex with your dog’s body, so a snugger fit is actually better for comfort and durability.
-
The DogCover was designed with real dogs in mind. It has built-in stretch and an adjustable wrap-style fit that works for a wide range of shapes, sizes, and breeds. Whether your dog is long and lean, short and stocky, or somewhere in between, the recovery suit is made to move with them and stay secure during recovery
-
The recovery suit should wrap your pup gently, giving light compression (which actually helps calm them and promote rest), without restricting movement or breathing. If it looks like a sausage casing, it’s too tight. If it’s sagging like a hoodie on laundry day, too loose.
Usage & Care
-
The DogCover is made from a proprietary fabric. It combines three layers:
Cellulose (35%) – to absorb fluids from wounds or ointments
Polypropylene (50%) – water-repellent to keep the surface dry and prevent leaks
Elastic fibers (15%) – for a snug, stretchy fit that moves with your dog
The inside layer soaks up anything from wounds or ointments, while the outside stays dry to the touch. It’s breathable, lightweight, and gentle on sensitive skin. Oh, and it also has just enough stretch to move with your dog, not against them. Designed for comfort, healing, and sanity (yours and your dog’s)
-
Yes! The DogCover is made from a high-quality microfiber fabric that’s safe for pets to wear. It's designed to be gentle on your pup’s skin and tough enough to handle all the scratching, stretching, and snoozing they can throw at it.
-
Easy: it’s a step-in design. That means no over-the-head drama and no wrestling match.
Just lay your DogCover flat, guide your pup’s legs in the holes, and wrap it around like a comfy little burrito. Fasten the hook tape and make sure the ReCover logo is centered right above their tail for the best fit. Then give them a treat (for being ridiculously cute) and you're good to go.
If you have a male dog, don’t forget to gently tear along the perforated belly area to create space for him to pee comfortably. Female dogs don’t need any adjustments.
-
The DogCover is designed to fit smoothly under your pup’s regular gear, so feel free to clip on their harness or collar right over it. Healing doesn’t mean house arrest, so your dog can still strut safely, and in style.
-
If the suit gets dirty, it’s time to swap it out. This recovery suit is disposable by design, which means you don’t have to worry about washing or reusing a garment that’s been in contact with wounds, fluids, or ointments. This keeps things clean, hygienic, and safe for your dog during recovery.
We recommend having a second suit on hand just in case things get messy (because let’s be honest... they will).
-
Short answer: hygiene.
Long answer: after surgery or during wound care, you want your dog in clean, fresh gear, especially if there are any fluids, ointments, or bodily surprises involved. The fabric is designed to last several days, and then you can simply toss and replace.
-
The outer layer has a propylene barrier that helps resist moisture, while the inner layer is highly absorbent and breathable. One dog even tested it in a downpour and it was dry in 15 minutes (true story). It’s not a raincoat, but it holds up impressively well.
-
We don’t recommend it. The recovery suit is disposable for sanitary reasons. Washing and reusing it will compromise the antimicrobial layer and the wearability of the suit. For multi-day use, we suggest having a second suit on hand.
-
Yes. The suit is designed to fit over light bandages or topical treatments, and the fabric wicks away moisture and ointments to keep the area protected and clean.
-
You can—but there’s usually no need. Dogs can eat, sleep, potty, and play comfortably in the suit. If you’re applying ointment or treating a wound, we recommend switching to a fresh suit afterward to keep things clean and hygienic.
-
Dogs can wear the DogCover comfortably for multiple days at a time. In testing, some dogs wore one for up to three days straight. Just do a quick check each day for cleanliness and comfort. When in doubt, switch it out.
Veterinary & Medical Considerations
-
Yes—and not just any vets. The DogCover suit was developed in collaboration with leading veterinary professionals, including
Dr. Nicole Leibman, DVM, MS, DACVIM-Oncology, Director of the Cancer Institute at the Animal Medical Center
Dr. Brett Shorenstein, General Practitioner and Owner of Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic
Both doctors worked with real patients during the suit’s development and testing, giving feedback on fit, function, and healing outcomes. Their input helped shape ReCover into a safe, effective, and vet-approved alternative to the cone.
-
That’s exactly what it’s made for. The DogCover acts as a full-body barrier over wounds, sutures, and hotspots, so your dog can’t lick, chew, or scratch healing areas. Unlike a cone, it protects the actual skin while still letting your pup move comfortably.
-
Absolutely. The DogCover isn’t just for post-surgery; it’s also great for dogs with chronic skin issues. It protects irritated spots from further licking or scratching, which gives the skin a chance to calm down and heal.
-
Yes, it's one of the most common reasons pet owners purchase the DogCover. The suit covers the abdominal area to protect sutures, while still letting your dog eat, sleep, and potty normally. It’s a far more comfortable alternative to the cone.
-
The DogCover shields healing spots from licking, dirt, and friction. The gentle pressure from the fabric also helps keep any topical ointments in place and can reduce the urge to fuss with the area.
-
Not at all. The fabric is stretchy and lightweight, giving just enough gentle compression to help calm your dog. Dogs can walk, rest, stretch, and even nap in their DogCover without any restriction.
